Season 8 marks the end, but it didn’t have to be so.
If Game of Thrones author George R.R. Martin had his way, the show wouldn’t end after eight seasons, revealing to Variety that the unpopular decision laid solely with showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss.
Martin would have liked to see it continue for several years yet, stating:
“We could’ve gone 11, 12, 13 seasons. David and Dan have been saying for like five seasons that seven seasons is all they would go. We got them to go to eight but not any more than that. There was a period like five years ago when they were saying seven seasons and I was saying 10 seasons and they won, they’re the ones actually working on it. I know all of the actors, as great as they are, all the actors are anxious to get on and play other roles. They don’t want to spend their entire lives playing one role and that’s fine, that’s great, we had such an amazing cast.”
HBO is in Martin’s camp and is so keen to extend the life of its flagship series that it has began work on several spinoff series.
Tentatively titled The Long Night, the first of HBO’s spinoffs takes place thousands of years in the past and chronicles the world’s descent from the golden Age of Heroes into its darkest hour.
Here’s Who Plays Who In The Witcher Netflix Series
There are up to 50 actors in the promising Netflix Series, least of which is Man of Steel’s Henry Cavill as the iconic White Wolf.
Henry Cavill wasn’t kidding when he expressed a desire to join Netflix’s The Witcher.
The British actor, best know for playing Superman in the Man of Steel and Justice League movies, is a fan of both the fantasy novels and CD Projekt’s RPG series, letting it be known that he would love to play Geralt of Rivia. His wish has come true.
Freya Allan (Into the Badlands) will star alongside Cavill as Ciri, Geralt’s adoptive daughter in The Witcher series, while badass sorceress Yennefer will be played by Anya Chalotra (The ABC Murders). Yennefer is also Ciri’s mother figure and Geralt’s true love.
Jodhi May (Game of Thrones) takes the helm as Queen Calanthe, with Bjorn Hlynur Haraldsson (Fortitude) serving as the the knight Eist, her husband. Adam Levy (Knightfall, Snatch) plays Mousesack the druid.
Tissaia (MyAnna Buring, Ripper Street, Kill List) leads the magical academy at Aretuza, where novice sorcerers Fringilla (Mimi Ndiweni, Black Earth Rising) and Sabrina (Therica Wilson-Read, Profile) are training.
Also joining the cast is Millie Brady (The Last Kingdom, Teen Spirit) as the outcast Princess Renfri.
It seems like a good mix of newcomers and star talent. In an interview with the Hollywood Reporter, showrunner and executive producer Lauren Schmidt Hissrich revealed that the cast is currently up to 50 actors, and over 200 people auditioned for the Ciri role alone.

Netflix Is Turning Diablo Video Game Into Animated Series
It’s yet another vido game adaptation for the popular media services provider.
Netflix is bringing another video game franchise to the small screen after the success of its Castlevania series, and it’s Diablo.
A twitter post by Boom! Studios founder Andrew Cosby confirmed that an animated adaptation of Diablo is in the works.
Created by Blizzard in 1996, the Diablo franchise is set in the Kingdom of Khanduras, where a lone hero (the player) fights to rid the world of Diablo, the Lord of Terror. It was succeeded by the critically-acclaimed Diablo II in 2000 and Diablo III in 2012.
Cosby is credited with creating the TV series Eureka, which ran for five seasons between 2006 and 2012, and penned the script for the Hellboy reboot.

Game of Thrones Season 7 Teaser Trailer Makes Wait Painful
If you’re like me, the thought of Game of Thrones Season 7 being a long way off (it’s been delayed, you know) is beyond saddening, especially with the way Season 6 ended. However, knowing that people are working hard to ensure top-notch quality makes the wait a little less painful.
At San Diego Comic Con, HBO unveiled a nice little teaser providing a behind-the-scenes look at Season 7’s development, taking us to most of the corners of the Seven Kingdoms and showing off some general set shenanigans.
It’s made very apparent that Queen Cersei’s reign will be a big highlight of the show, but you probably already knew that…
Game of Thrones Season 7 airs in Summer 2017.
