Nebula Guardians Of The Galaxy

Bad girl Nebula, played by Karen Gillan, didn’t get a lot of screen time in the first Guardians of the Galaxy movie, but she nevertheless left quite the impression on moviegoers. Fortunately, she has a much bigger role in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2.

Director James Gunn teased moviegoers with the following tweet…

This is great news considering Gunn only scratched the surface of the character. You wanted more of Nebula, and you’ll get more of Nebula…

He also revealed that Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2 will have more of a sci-fi bent to it than its predecessor and revealed the names of a few more Marvel characters he’d love to see on screen…

Starring Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Karen Gillan, Michael Rooker, Kurt Russell, Bradley Cooper, and Vin Diesel, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 releases on April 28, 2017 in Europe and on May 5, 2017 in North America.

Here’s Why Carnage Wasn’t In The Venom Movie

Venom vs Carnage - Spider Man

Most comic book fans expected Carnage to be the main villain.

The nut job villain was originally intended to be in the Venom movie, but director Ruben Fleischer chose to exclude him in favor of another symbiote, Riot. There is a reason for that.

In an interview with CBR, Flesicher admitted that its the keenness of fans to see Carnage that led Sony to keep him out of the first movie and save him for the sequel. He stated:

“I think, you know, there’s a certain symbiote spawn that I think fans are most excited to see. So that one was off the table. Hopefully at some point in the future they will. So we wanted to save kind of the most anticipated one for the future. And not just that, but because we really wanted this movie to be about Venom.”

As for why he chose Riot over the dozen or so symbiotes that exist in the Marvel universe, he explained:

“…it was just honestly kind of like, who’s the coolest looking spawn who isn’t that one? The most badass, you know? That’s where Riot came from. He’s the biggest of the Life Foundation symbiotes, he’s got that gun metal grey. I don’t want to say it was purely an aesthetic decision, but the aesthetics definitely played a big part.”

Cletus Kasady, Carnage’s host, actually makes a very brief appearance in the mid-credits scene of Venom, setting the symbiote up for a starring role in the sequel. And speaking to CinemaBlend about the cameo, Fleischer stated he couldn’t envisioned anyone other than Woody Harrelson for the role:

“He was the first person I thought of to play Cletus Kasady. And what will be fun is, if you think about Woody in Natural Born Killers, and that darkness and that menace that he can bring to a serial killer like Cletus Kasady, you know, he can go real dark and explore that.”

Like most comic book fans, we can’t wait to see Venom and Carnage clash on the big screen, but leaving out the crazed symbiote in such a pivotal movie for Sony was a risky move. It’s a good thing Venom was a box office hit, surprising as it may be, despite receiving mixed reviews from critics.

Critics Hate The Venom Movie, But You Loved It

Venom with teeth glaring, tongue sticking out

Your appreciation and enjoyment helped make Venom a surprising hit in theaters.

Despite less than stellar reviews from critics — it has an average score of 30% on Rotten Tomatoes and 35% on Metacritic — audiences certainly reacted positively to Venom. The Tom Hardy-starring solo movie opened at $205.2 million worldwide, beating expectations.

Venom‘s success is more a testament to the badass comic book anti-villain’s appeal to the masses and Hardy’s acting chops than the movie’s plot, direction or production value.

Venom pulled in $80 million in the United States, well above tracking estimates of between $55 million and $65 million, and ahead of the $75.8 million grossed by Marvel Studios superhero summer blockbuster Ant-Man and the Wasp.

That figure also sets a new October record, which was previously held by Gravity ($55.7 million).

Factor in the addition $125.2 million garnered internationally (not including China, where it hasn’t been released as of the time of this writing) and a modest budget of around $100 million, and it’s easy to see why Venom 2 is already in the works.
